Working On An Automatic Rigging Script

Sunday, February 5th, 2006 | CG

I’m working on a script that automates the rigging process for most characters. I’m considering releasing a rig made using this system to the public, so hopefully some animators will pick it up and get back at me with some feedback.

I’m in the process of ironing out some bugs and adding the last bits and pieces of features. I tested the tool on some free character models from CG Talk, so far everything looks pretty good! There’s some tweaking to be done to make it work for all of them without any tune-up, but I’m fairly close.

The process is building a skeleton from scratch using standard max bone tools, labeling some of the bones using a custom tool, then basically pushing a button to make the rest happen. Eventually there will also be a UI for this thing with a bunch preferences.

Heya Aeron, I’m working on something similar myself at the moment - I’ll look forward to see what different methods we use in our systems :)

Here’s a quick bit of what I’m working on - not totally functional but an idea of where I’m going :)

Hello, Mayor Paper is related to the realization of a script for 3D Max rigging that allows me to apply a set of bones but make the tool as standard as possible to apply to any type of skeleton ….
thanks for any help or suggestions you can give me
